Development of an EU framework to assess the overall impacts of occupational health and safety (OSH) prevention on the performance of construction enterprises.
A study aiming to improve the implementation of health and safety standards in the construction sector. The overall aim is to have the sector operating under safe and healthy conditions comparable to other sectors of the economy.
The role for Oxford Research Baltics was to undertake a review of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia Occupational Health and Safety Initiatives to develop a framework exploring the Cost and Benefits impacts of OSH initiatives on construction companies. The literature review sought to determine the main drivers for encouraging companies to take up OSH initiatives that go beyond minimum levels of legal compliance. Based on the literature review results, a causal chain was developed illustrating how OSH initiatives positively shape company behaviour.
Oxford Research Baltics also gathered interview data from companies across the Baltic countries. The interviews explored the cost and benefit impacts that the OSH initiatives had had in companies and how the companies’ behaviours and safety approaches had changed as a result of following the initiatives.
The report is available on the website of Institute for Employment Studies.
