Management and Content Provision for ICT and Tourism Business Support Portal

The aim of the research is to evaluate information and communications technology (ICT) capabilities and enhancing opportunities of digital skills in European businesses, and particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which are starting up or already operating in the tourism sector.

The main objective is to make tourism businesses, especially SMEs, more competitive and efficient by taking advantage of ICT.

In order to effectively and efficiently achieve this, a research exercise was carried out to identify and establish the level of digitalisation in SMEs within the tourism sector. Desk research of the current technologies and trends characterising the tourism sector, and primary research, allowed benchmarking and the identification of potential ICT training gaps.

Accordingly, this gave an opportunity to improve the content of the “Tourism Business Portal” in a way that employees in SMEs can gain a clear understanding of the current trends and the opportunities that they could potentially exploit. Furthermore, relevant support was recommended or provided to SMEs towards acquiring the necessary skills that will help businesses in the adoption and use of digital technologies in their daily operations.
